Per multiple Presidential executive orders (including Executive Order 13123), federal facilities are mandated to decrease energy consumption while increasing its use of renewable energy sources. As a result, for example, the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), representing 388 million square feet, requires LEED certification for all new construction and major renovations. Following the federal government’s lead, California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico (four of seven states in the solar-intense Southwest) now require that new state-funded buildings be LEED certified.
Sunlight Direct’s SolarPoint™ Lighting and Power products could help its government customers earn up to 20 percent of the points required to achieve LEED certification.
